El Molino High School junior Christine Wong is a championship gymnast who just took third place on vault and 11th place all around out of 28 girls in her age group at the 2019 Women’s Junior Olympic Level 9 Western Championships in Spokane, Wash., on May 10 and 12.
Wong was the only Sonoma County gymnast to qualify to join the nation’s top gymnasts from 24 states at the Western Championships.
The El Mo junior qualified by placing first in the vault and third all-around in her age group in the regional championships in Las Vegas in April, which featured gymnasts from Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah.
Wong has trained at Santa Rosa Gymnastics Center for 10 years. She competes in the vault, bars, floor and beam. Level 9 is the second-highest skill level for USA Gymnastics competition.
