Popular five-week program to feature eight sports
Boredom will not be an option for hundreds of local kids looking to hone their athletic skills this summer with the return of the popular El Molino High School mini-camps.
The five-week program will be conducted on the El Molino Forestville campus (with the exception of golf) each Friday from June 14 through July 19. There will be no camp on July 5.
Sponsored by the El Molino Booster Club, the co-ed camps will be run by Lions coaches and players in sports that include golf, basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, wrestling, football and baseball.
Clinics will be split into morning (9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and afternoon (1 to 3:30 p.m.) sessions aimed at introducing young athletes to each sport. An emphasis will be placed on exercise, improving skills and having fun. The camps are open to all kids in incoming grades 4-9, with younger athletes welcome with parental supervision.
To stay within North Coast Section guidelines, a $5 fee per session will be charged. The fee can be paid in cash or with a check made payable to El Molino High School. There is no need to sign up prior to each camp, simply download an application form, fill it out and bring it with you. All athletes will also need to bring appropriate footwear, water and a lunch, if they plan to stay for both sessions.
The camps have grown tremendously in popularity in the past couple of years, as evidenced by the big turnout for the volleyball camp last year.
“We only had 24 kids in our first volleyball camp and last year there was 38,” El Mo head volleyball coach Becky Sani reported. “I think this is a reflection of how we’ve been improving our athletic programs. It’s a great way for us to showcase our teams and reach out to the community.”
