A watershed year doesn’t begin to describe the 2018 season for the El Molino mountain bike team, following a tremendous performance at the high school state championship.
The Lions saved their best for last on the rugged Five Spring Farm course in Petaluma on May 20, capturing second place in Division 2.
Leading the way was Neva Titus, El Mo’s lone female and top point-getter on the squad, turning in a great effort to finish 13th among JV girls, while teammates Taj Krieger (27th place) and Spencer Babcock (37th place) also scored big points for the Lions.  Mael Chevrolet cracked the top 10 in placing 10th overall in the sophomore boys race.
Other big contributors to the team were sophomores Chris Hoener, Grant Feige and Jack Grassl.
El Molino experienced a break-out season in 2018, fielding its largest roster ever under coaches Mike Warren and Kate Aldridge. The sky may be the limit for the Lions going forward, with all athletes expected to return next year.
