The dog days of summer have arrived, but that hasn’t slowed down
a contingent of wrestlers from El Molino who have taken full
advantage of the off-season to compete at the national level.
This month, several members of the El Mo wrestling team have
traversed the country in both competitive tournaments and camps,
with an eye toward a championship season next winter.
“Our kids are working hard this summer and we’re shooting for
the league title next season,” confirmed long-time El Mo assistant
coach Greg Dumas. “
Leading the charge for the Lions this summer have been incoming
112-pound sophomore Logan Fore and junior 119-pounder Blake Borges.
The pair recently competed at the prestigious 12th annual National
High School Wrestling Championships in Maryland.
The competition was a veritable who’s-who of high school
wrestlers, and included more than 400 of the top prep grapplers in
the nation.
Fore went 4-2 at the tournament, capturing an impressive 8th
place to earn High School All-American status. Although Borges did
not place, he turned in a notable performance, going 1-2 for the
tourney.
In addition, several other of El Molino’s returning stars are
honing their skills at high-level camps this summer.
Incoming sophomores Taryn Christiansen and Rio Nance are at the
University of Minnesota for the entire month of July, attending
what many consider to be the toughest and most intensive high
school wrestling camp in the country.
El Mo grapplers Blake Borges, Vinnie Fuesze, and Tyler Ripka
attended the Oklahoma State Wrestling Camp under the watchful eye
of John Smith, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and four-time world
champion.

The Lions wrestling program will conduct a three-day camp for
kids in incoming 5th-12th grades from Aug. 6-8. The event will run
from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day with a cost of $175 per
person.
The camp, held in the El Molino gymnasium, will feature an
impressive group of coaches including Steve Powell of Easton,
Pennsylvania High School, and Braunan Creighton, a two-time NCAA
champion from Nebraska.
