El Molino and Analy High School wrestling teams sent a contingent of athletes to a pair of JV and varsity tournaments on the Healdsburg High School campus on Dec. 15-16, logging some much needed mat time in a good overall showing.

The teams kicked off the weekend with participation in a JV tournament on Friday, Dec. 15, with five El Mo athletes wrestling at three matches on the afternoon.  Competing for the Lions were Hannah Ricoli (2-1), Erik Dimond (0-3), Asher Weathersbee (0-3), Nate Wheeler (1-2, wrestling up a weight class) and Austin Kelsey (0-3).
Representing Analy at the JV tourney were Logan Bailey (2-0 at 113 lbs.), Zach Fogg (2-2 at 120 lbs.), Lorenzo Robles (2-2 at 160 lbs.) and Leinee Albet (1-2 at 160 lbs.).
On Saturday, the Lions took part in the annual Drew Esquivel Memorial Duals Tournament, an event which featured five duals matches for each team. The Lions went 1-4 as a team, losing to Amador Valley, Casa Grande, Stuart Hall and Redwood, with the lone win coming against Woodland.
“We suffered a bad weekend with several sick kids and losing Wesley Schaivone for the season to a broken thumb,” El Mo head coach Ron Wright reported. “We have some work to do over the next two weeks before we host Petaluma (Jan. 3) in the league opener.”
Upcoming events for the Lions also include the Joe Rios tournament in Chico (Jan. 4-5) and the 20th Annual Napa Valley Girls Classic hosted by Vintage High School on Jan. 5-6.
