The league wrestling season is in full swing for West County high school teams, as El Molino and Analy took to mat in a pair of SCL dual meets on Jan. 13. week.
The Lions (1-1) notched their first win in convincing fashion in a meet with visiting Piner, defeating the Prospectors 51-15. Scoring mat wins for the Lions were 120-pound Abraham Martinez, 152-pound Mason Rewerts, 160-pound Sire Clark, and 170-pound Josh Wright. El Mo also captured five weight classes by forfeit.
The Lions also sent a seven-man contingent to the prestigious Tim Brown Invitational Tournament in Sacramento on Jan. 15-16. 134-pound Sam MacDonell led the team with a 7-3 record to take sixth place. Other solid efforts were had by 182-pound Christian Ohlin (4-2), Leo Garza (1-2), Eddie Lopez (1-2), Jahyme Daly (0-2), Abraham Martinez (0-2) and Angel Aguilar (0-2).
Meanwhile, the Tigers were coming off a great showing at the Deets Winslow Memorial Tournament in Windsor when they took the mat for their SCL opener against defending champion Healdsburg last week, falling to the Greyhounds, 49-22.
Recording individual victories for the Tigers were 106-pound Trevor Bagan, 113-pound Dalton Gavriloff, 145-pound Yogi Bazzano, 195-pound Alex Perriera and 220-pound Ariel Merhav (forfeit).
