Cloverdale opens league with wins over Willits, St. Helena
The Eagles are reaping the benefits of a tough preseason volleyball schedule this month, kicking off league play with impressive wins over Willits and St. Helena.
Cloverdale (5-8) dropped seven of its first eight matches in a challenging start, but the team was rewarded in a strong start to the NCL season. On Saturday, the roll continued with another pair of wins in a tournament hosted by Calistoga.
“The team had a great week, compiling a 4-1 record,” CHS coach Margaret Fitzgerald reported. “It was a great team effort with everyone making a difference in our level of play.”
At press time the Eagles were preparing for a Sept. 10 non-league match with visiting Credo, before resuming league action at home on Sept. 11 against Middletown.
Cloverdale will visit Lower Lake on Thursday, Sept. 13 and travel to Kelseyville next Tuesday, Sept. 18.  All varsity matches start at 6 p.m.
This year’s official varsity roster includes Aly Bernal, Ahnna Randolph, Lane Hughes, Xenia Echols, Alexa Miller, Alyssa Moffett, Janaye Hammond, Viv McKinney, Marina Lopez, Angelina Cordova, Maci Hernandez and Tehya Bird.
