The Cloverdale varsity volleyball team is in the final phase of a rebuilding campaign this week, a season that has included both exciting moments and a few growing pains.
The Eagles (3-9, 4-14), led by veteran coach Margaret Fitzgerald, have fielded a relatively young roster that includes six juniors, three sophomores and one freshman.
“We are young (no seniors) but we are improving as the season progresses,” Fitzgerald reported.
The team features junior defensive specialists Camryn Figueroa, Alma Beltran, Jaedyn Jenkins and Hannah Bereschi, middle hitter Shaye Stewart and setter/defensive specialist Jessica Bartholdy.
Sophomores are middle hitters Xenia Echols and Kayli Persons and outside hitter Heather Sterling.
The lone freshman is talented outside hitter/setter Tehya Bird.
The Eagles enjoyed one of the highlights of the season on Oct. 20 when they played host to visiting Willits on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The match featured a four-set win before a big crowd, making the event all the more special.
“I would like to thank the fans for coming out and supporting the cause and the Eagles,” Fitzgerald said.
Cloverdale will close out the season this week with scheduled home and away matches against Lower Lake (Oct. 25, after press time) and at Middletown on Thursday, Oct. 27.
Match times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 6:30 p.m.
