Open field runner – Eagle’s running back Cesar Buenrostro turned in an outstanding game at Clear Lake on Oct. 12, rushing for 86 yards in a 41-27 rout over the Cardinals.

Cloverdale will host St. Helena on Friday in home finale
The Eagles continued to roll in league football action at Clear Lake on Oct. 12, powering past the host Cardinals in a 41-27 rout.
The win pushed Cloverdale’s second place league mark to 4-1 and 6-2 on the season.
“It was a good road win,” Eagle’s head coach Greg Alexander reported. “Clear Lake ran the ball well and we really didn’t have an answer for their dive, but offensively we were able to move the ball at will.”
Cloverdale will begin a final push for the postseason this Friday, Oct. 19 when they host St. Helena on Senior Night. Kickoff times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
The Saints (2-3, 4-4) are coming off a 30-14 loss to Fort Bragg on Friday, but should pose a good challenge for the Eagles this week.
“This is a huge test for us, they’ll run the triple option so we need to be disciplined all game on defense or we’ll give up big plays,” Alexander noted. “This is Senior Night for us and we want to send our seniors out on a high note, but we need a solid week of practice in order to do so.”
Eagles offense topples Cardinals
The Cloverdale offense was hitting on all cylinders in Friday’s visit to Clear Lake, stunning the Cardinals with a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter. Led by outstanding quarterback play from Shayne Turner and the inside/outside game of running backs Jone Wesele and Cesar Buenrostro, the Eagles used a strong push from the boys up front to control the line of scrimmage. Cloverdale led 21-6 at the half.
“Cesar and Jone did a great job of getting yards after contact when running the ball,” Alexander said. “Shayne also had a good day and made great decisions in the option game, which resulted in some big runs for him.”
Trailing 27-6 after three, the Saints mounted a strong fourth quarter rally to get the crowd back into it, but a pair of touchdowns by the Eagles would seal the deal in an eventual 41-27 victory.
The win completed a clean sweep for the night, with the Eagle’s JV squad also logging a 42-12 win over the Cardinals to run their league record to 5-0 and 6-2 on the year.
Turner finished up a strong night under center, completing five of 13 passes for 93 yards, while churning up 52 yards on the ground. Wesele continued a great season with 147 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns. Buenrostro rushed for 86 yards on 11 carries, while adding one catch for 44 yards. Garrett Robertson chipped in 27 yards on two catches.
