The varsity basketball Eagles are coming off one of their best stretches of the winter basketball campaign, scoring successive wins over Fort Bragg (67-53), Lower Lake (79-65) and Willits (82-42).
The string extended Cloverdale’s winning streak to four games and pushed their league record to 4-1 and 10-6 in the season.
The main theme of the streak has been offensive balance, with the team getting contributions from virtually their entire roster.
“In the Fort Bragg game we had five players score in double figures, which gave us a great team win on the road,” Eagle’s coach Pat Fitzgerald reported. “I love to see such balance in scoring which shows everyone is a threat.”
The Jan. 8 win at Fort Bragg featured a slow start and a strong finish, with the Eagles outscoring the T-Wolves in every period after trailing 13-10 after the first quarter. Top scorers included Josh Lemley (14), Shayne Turner (12), Andres Herrera (11), Chuche Maciel (11) and Mario Lopez (11).
Cloverdale established control early against visiting Lower Lake on Friday, racing to a 35-24 lead at the half en route to a 79-65 win.
Lemley had a monster game with 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Lopez chipped in 20 points for the Eagles.
It was all Eagles in Monday’s win at Willits, as they opened up a 39-22 at the break on their way to an 82-42 rout. Pacing the attack were Lemley (19), Maciel (15), Turner (12), Lopez (11) and Spencer Hoover (10).
The Eagles will resume league action on Jan. 16 against visiting Clear Lake and host St. Helena on Friday, Jan. 18 with 5 and 7:30 p.m. start times.
