Fresh off bye, Cloverdale looking to stay unbeaten
The varsity football Eagles will be out to keep their unbeaten pre-league season run alive when they visit neighboring Healdsburg this Friday, Sept. 18 in a much-anticipated clash at Recreation Park.
Kickoff times for the JV and varsity are 5 and 7:30 p.m.
Cloverdale should be well-rested following a bye in the schedule last week, while the Greyhounds dropped a disappointing 21-14 loss at Lower Lake on Friday to fall to 1-2 on the season.
Healdsburg enters the game with their share of offensive weapons, led by junior quarterback Levi Yeley, senior running back Bryant Herrguth and senior receivers Cody Koch and Lucas Kiff.
Eagles look to
extend streak
The Eagles ran their pre-league record to 2-0 on Sept. 4 with a 54-12 shellacking of visiting St. Vincent, using a stellar running game and stout defense to vanquish their first two opponents. Cloverdale opened the campaign with a 28-24 come-from-behind win over Berean Christian.
The running back tandem of seniors Luke Bernardi and Mason Meier has been nearly unstoppable, while backups Adrian Bernardi and Tristen Rege have proven more than capable when called upon.
“As a coach, it’s a great problem to have when four guys can carry the ball for you,” CHS head coach Chad Prieskorn said following the Eagles last win.
Other bright spots on offense have been the play of senior quarterback Chris Harms and talented receiver Marcus Poe, both who’ve shown tremendous improvement in their first season.
Kicker Pat Ojeda has been perfect on PAT attempts this year.
Top defenders for the Eagles have been linebackers Adrian Bernardi, Meier, Luke Bernardi, along with Poe and Ojeda.
“Defensively we’ve played very well, gang tackling the ball carrier and applying relentless pressure on the quarterback,” Prieskorn noted.
