Lady Eagles stay unbeaten with dominant victories
Cloverdale High School baseball and softball teams continued to thrive in recent league action, combining for four wins in five outings.
The Lady Eagles’ varsity softballers (7-0, 10-0) remained unbeaten on the season with dominant home and road wins over Clear Lake (6-1) and Willits (25-3).
At press time Cloverdale was bracing for a first-place showdown with defending NCL 1 champion Kelseyville in the friendly confines on May 1, with the winner having a leg up on the 2018 pennant. The ladies will travel to Fort Bragg on Thursday, May 3 and visit Kelseyville in a road rematch on May 7. All games start at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile the varsity boys (5-4, 8-6) scored two wins in three games, starting with a 14-0 non-league rout at Healdsburg on April 23. The Eagles lost a tough, 1-0 contest to Clear Lake on April 24 but rebounded with an 11-0 shellacking over Willits on Friday.
“This was arguably the strongest played game by the Eagles this season,” CHS coach Ben West said after Friday’s win over Willits. “Kamrin Mitchell threw a complete game shut-out, and excellent approaches at the plate helped us put up 11 runs. Defensively, we were solid with no mistakes.”
Cloverdale will host Kelseyville on May 1 and entertain Healdsburg May 2. The Eagles will travel to Fort Bragg this Friday, May 4. First pitch for all games is 4 p.m.
