The Cloverdale cross-country squad turned in a strong showing in a dual meet against Lower Lake contested on the 2.9-mile Brookshire Park course in Willits on Oct. 28.
The Eagles completed a team sweep, with the varsity boys posting a 19-39 victory, while the girls won 18-36.
Leading the way for the varsity boys were Cloverdale runners; senior Nick Rilea, who finished in fifth place with a time of 18:59 in a field of 27 runners. Also logging great efforts were Taylor Wanke (19:26), Juan Guitierrez (19:27), Everett Conway (20:15) and Derick Rilea (23:41).
Katie Edwards paced the varsity girls with a third-place finish (out of 41 runners) in a fast 21:22. Other top finishers for the Eagles included sophomores Sami Santana (24:09) and Grisselle Herrera (24:11) and freshmen Julie Edwards (24:16), Cristina Cardenas (25:22) and Eden Winniford (27:25).
The “Running Eagles” were back on the trail Nov. 4 (after press time) when they took on Clear Lake on St. Helena’s home course.
