Cloverdale will compete at NCS meet Saturday in Hayward
The Cloverdale High School cross country squad turned in a strong showing at the Coastal Mountain Championships on Nov. 9, the first step for runners with state aspirations.
The meet, held on the 3.01-mile course at Cache Creek Winery in Clear Lake Oaks, included races contested for both NCL-1 and NCL-2 teams.
Leading the way for the varsity Eagles was Paden Collard, who powered to a second place finish overall in a sizzling 16:42. Rounding out the top five Cloverdale boys were Emmett Lawson, Jacob Elliott, Everett Conway and Juan Gutierrez. The Eagles finished second overall as a team and the men had their best race of the season.
Julie Edwards led the Cloverdale girls contingent, negotiating the course in a fast 22:47 to finish eighth overall. Also breaking into the Eagles’ top five were Frederike Tschernich, Katie Edwards, Grisselle Herrera and Sami Santana. The girls finished in fourth place overall.
Next up for the Eagles are the North Coast Section Championships this Saturday, Nov. 19 at Hayward High School. Races will be contested in 10 divisions, with Cloverdale competing in the Division 5 races.
The prestigious CIF State Cross-Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
