Last week the team headed out to Middletown for a 2.8 mile race in 90 degree weather. The ladies team started the meet off with strong efforts despite injuries and setbacks.
Julie Edwards was the first Cloverdale runner to come in with a time of 22:08, the fifth woman overall.
Frederike Tschernich and Katie Edwards were close behind despite taking a wrong turn on the course. Sami Santana and Grisselle Herrera held strong through the end.
Cheyenne Palmer wins the “brave the creek” award for having no fear and passing several people by taking long strides when crossing the life-rich waters.
Although the 21-38 loss against Middletown was an upset, the ladies had a positive, productive day and plan to rest up for the next meet in St. Helena.
The men won the varsity race with Paden Collard leading the field with a time of 16:03, breaking the course record by over a minute. Emmett Lawson finished second, also well ahead of the rest of the runners.
Jacob Elliot and Everett Conway worked together, encouraging each other as they crossed the creek. Juan Gutierrez kept his eyes up on his teammates, solidifying the win as the final scoring runner and passing a competitor in the final stretch.
Joel Mendoza and Finn Addison came in looking strong, picking people off throughout the race. It was a picture-perfect example of how a cohesive team can pull together to accomplish great things.
