The Cloverdale Eagles hosted a five-team cross country meet at their Asti Winery 3.0 mile course on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Cloverdale, St. Helena, Kelseyville and Willits are all in the NCL1 League. Each week, for seven weeks, two conference teams compete with each other.
At that time, all teams in the league will have scored against each other and then will run in the Coastal Mountain Conference Championship (NCL1 and NCL2) Meet. Pacific University College Prep also participated but are not in the league.
At the Sept. 23 meet, Cloverdale was competing and scoring against St. Helena. Kelseyville/ Willits scored against each other.
The Cloverdale boys varsity team lost to St. Helena 17 to 39 (Lowest score wins). Nick Rilea was Cloverdale’s number one runner as he finished in ninth place in the 20-runner field with a 22:24 time, Juan Gutierrez finished 11th (23:34), Tyler Wanke 13th (23:43), Everett Conway 16th (25:35) and Joel Mendoza, 18th (26:18) rounding out the team scoring.
The girls team defeated St. Helena 23 to 33. Katie Edwards finished second (32-runner field) with a time of 25:05 and Grisselle Herrera was fourth with 27:57, Julie Edwards (sixth) 29:22, Sami Santana (eighth), Christina Cardenas (11th) 31:10 and Eden Winiford (14th) 32:19 rounding out the team scoring. (Julie, Christina, and Eden are all freshmen and Grisselle is a sophomore).
All teams in the boys JV division ran as an incomplete team, as no school had five runners. Cloverdale freshman Juan Flores finished third (23:50) in the nine-runner field. At press time, the team was scheduled to compete against Willits at St. Helena on Wednesday Sept. 30.
