Cloverdale High teams resume league this week
The varsity baseball Eagles enjoyed a mixed bag on the NCL-1 circuit last week, claiming one win in two outings.
Cloverdale (8-5, 2-2) began the stretch on March 31 with a 5-3 loss at Willits, but bounced back three days later in an 8-1 win over visiting Lower Lake.
At press time, the Eagles were getting set to host Middletown on April 7, and will hit the road for upcoming road games at Fort Bragg (Friday, April 10) and Clear Lake (Tuesday, April 14). All games start at 4 p.m.
Eagles gain split
Cloverdale was locked in a seesaw battle in the March 31 meeting at Willits, drawing first blood in the opening frame for an early lead. The Wolverines pushed across two runs in the fourth to grab a 2-1 edge, but the Eagles clawed back with solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to surge ahead 3-2. Willits ended the madness in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs in an eventual 5-3 win.  Chris Harms took the loss for Cloverdale, while Betts was credited with the win for Willits.
Harms was back on the hill in the April 3 clash with visiting Lower Lake, setting the tone with a masterful outing. The junior right-hander fired a complete-game, four-hitter, yielding just one earned run while fanning 11 in arguably his best effort of the season. The Eagles clung to a 2-1 lead after four frames, but busted it open with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings en route to an 8-1 victory. Leading hitters were Harms (3 for 4, 2B, 4 runs, RBI), Pat Ojeda (2 for 3, 3 RBIs), Greg Scaramella (2 for 4, 2 runs, RBI), Jared Hibbeln (2 for 4, 2B, run, 2 RBIs), Scott Richardson (1 for 3), Ivan Jimenez (1 for 1) and Michael McDermott (1 for 3).

Cloverdale opened up on April 3 against perennial power Bishop O’Dowd High School, giving up three runs in the first inning on their way to a 9-3 loss. Cloverdale squared off against Kennedy High School of Fremont in game two of the tourney, taking a 6-0 lead after four innings before disaster struck. Kennedy rallied for seven runs in the fateful fifth to take a one-run lead, hanging on in the final two frames to notch a 7-6 win.
