Life doesn¹t get much better these days for former Healdsburg
football stars Jared and Adrian Dunn, as they prepare to head off
next week for Bemidgi State University in Minnesota.
The Dunn brothers each landed football scholarships to the
division-II school following an outstanding two-year career at
Mendocino Junior College in Ukiah.
³I¹m really excited ‹ it¹s finally starting to sink in,² said
Adrian Dunn, who had hoped to move on to a four-year college and
play football with older brother Jared. ³We¹re looking forward to
the road trip.²
Following a successful second season of football for co-champion
Mendocino last fall, Jared landed on the all-conference squad at
outside linebacker, while Adrian was given all-conference honors
and was named to the JC Scholar All-American team as a defensive
end.
The Dunn brothers narrowed their college choices to two last
winter, finally giving Bemidgi State the nod over Humboldt State
after visiting the Minnesota campus in late March. They signed an
official letter of intent on April 1.
³We had a chance to meet all the coaches and tour the campus and
really liked the area,² said Adrian. ³It¹s a great opportunity to
get away, meet new people and experience some new things. We can
always come back to California down the road.²
Bemidgi State, located in north-central Minnesota, has a total
student enrollment of 6,705. The University is known for promoting
environmental awareness and conservation. The college offers
³banded tuition², meaning full-time students pay the same tuition
for 12 credits as they do for 20, a program students can use to
stay on pace to graduate on time.
Jared, a 2003 Healdsburg graduate, will major in business while
Adrian (class of 2004) pursues a degree in education. The brothers
have already rented a four-bedroom house across the street from the
campus, paid for by the university.
The pair will start informal football workouts in July, with
official team practices beginning on August 1.
