The Healdsburg downtown Tuesday Farmers’ Market was scheduled to end the last week of August, but via a last minute inquiry to the city by a farmer wondering why the market was closing at the peak of the growing season, the city, vendors, local merchants and customers came to an agreement to keep the market open.
Lou Preston, of Preston Farm and Vineyard was the instigator, but it became clear his desire resonated with those who had been attending or involved.
The market has produce, fresh seafood, locally made chocolate, pastries, oils and vinegar, fresh dates, mushroom jerky and crafts. A food truck serves tuna melts, Italian sandwiches, smoothies and fruit concoctions.
The stalls surround the Plaza, facing in towards the gazebo, where there’s live music during the market each week. Coloring tables are set up for young and old to create art.
The current plans are to keep the 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. market hours through Sept. 25, and as the end of the month approaches, evaluate whether it will continue through October.
