Dorman D. Gill, a 25-year resident of Healdsburg, passed away
May 30 in Grass Valley. He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Navy
and Vietnam Veteran, a member of American Legion Sotoyome Post 111
Healdsburg, active in the DAV L.H. Benson Chapter 122 in Grass
Valley. He was known for his passion about veterans issues. Being
in a wheelchair did not deter Dorm from participating in community
activities like the Healdsburg Elementary School Board for nine
years, Fitch Mountain School Site Council, Boy Scout Troop 21,
Healdsburg Shared Ministries and Westside 4-H. You would see Dorm
at every school function and he and his wife Sue were famous for
their Future Farmers Fair Parade parties at their home on Matheson
Street in Healdsburg. He is predeceased by his grandson, John
Patrick Shanahan III; his father Carol G. Gill and mother Thama
Staggs Stewart Gill. He is survived by his wife Sue Gill; children
Susi (Jack) Shanahan, Dorman Gill Jr., John (Lynn) Gill/ Winslow,
Debora Henry (Jim) Goepel, Jeff (Sarah) Gill, Ross Gill (Pam),
foster sons Tuan Hoang, Qui Hoang, and Phu (Rose) Hoang;
grandchildren Leyburn, Kelley, Dorman III, Jennifer, Megan,
Allyson, Christopher, Carolyn, Robert Henry, Zach, Dawson, Kevin,
Tasha and Phu Jr.; brother in law Bard (Patty) Brown; sister in law
Dean (Lou) Kinkel and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A
funeral service and a reception were held at St. Paul’s Church in
Healdsburg on June 8 at 4 pm. Memorial contributions can be sent
