Dogs large and small, furry and slobbery had their dignity tested Saturday morning, Oct. 27, as dog owners dressed them up for the annual Humane Society of Sonoma County Howl-O-Ween parade and contest.
According to the adoption center, 30 people registered to have their dog or group in the parade and contest, making for a lively and diverse mix of around 56 mutts.
Despite many disgruntled looking pooches who did not seem to enjoy the embarrassing costume wearing experience, there were a lot of wagging tails and human smiles when the winners of the small, medium and large dog division were announced.
A Chihuahua mix dressed as a bat came in second place, and the first place ribbon went to another mix dressed as a cupcake named Jabez with owner Kathy Von H.
Wally, who was dressed as a sushi salmon roll, grabbed the first place accolade for the medium dog division. The second place winner went to Blythe who was dressed as a ballerina with owner Ann VanNoy.
As for the large dog contest, Wild Bill the bloodhound came in second with his police dog theme. His handlers Casey Cole and Jake McKee carried the theme as Cole was dressed as a bandit and McKee was wearing a sheriff’s uniform. The first place prize went to Headley the lab who was dressed as a chia pet.
The number one group prize went to a band of Doberman Pincher Ninja Dog Turtles, Xena, Major, Poppy and Kitty.
