The three hour parking zones in downtown Healdsburg could be modified to increase turnover.

No parking meters proposed, but three-hour zone around Plaza could drop to two hours
The Healdsburg City Council will discuss parking at its regular meeting tonight. In the perennial search for a parking solution, the council is being asked to consider a series of incremental changes that could increase turnover and encourage long term parking to gravitate to the edges of downtown.
Among items the council will discuss are:

  • Changing the three-hour parking limit around the Plaza to two hours;
  • Extending the current three-hour limit farther along Center and North Streets;
  • Adding a three-hour zone (for 25 spaces) in the southern part of the West Plaza parking lot;
  • Installing more directional signs that encourage long term parking on the periphery of downtown.

The city recently approved the purchase and implementation of an automated license plate reader system, that could also increase turnover downtown by making parking enforcement more efficient. The system is not yet in place and its effectiveness is still unknown.
While paid parking (parking meters) has been discussed in the past as a way to better control parking, it is not on the list of recommendations.
The city council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Healdsburg City Hall, 401 Grove Street. The meeting will also be livestreamed, at this link: http://healdsburgca.iqm2.com/Citizens/default.aspx
