Construction has finally begun on Healdsburg’s long-anticipated foodie hotel from celebrity chef Charlie Palmer, according to a new press release. It’s called Appellation Hotel, and it’s the next big fixture of the new “North Village” neighborhood being crafted by developers in the footprint of an old lumber yard across Healdsburg Avenue from the Montage resort. A Zen-inspired senior living community called Enso Village is also a staple of the plan; that one is nearly done being built now. But construction on Appellation isn’t expected to wrap up until summer 2025 — so the Zen atmosphere will include some construction noise for a while yet. Once it’s finished, Appellation will be “spread across eight acres in a campus-style setting,” the press release says, and “will have 108 guestrooms spread across 12 buildings, with high-end amenities including a restaurant serving signature Charlie Palmer cuisine, luxury wine country spa, lobby and rooftop bars, two swimming pools, modern fitness center, and an expansive lawn and grange hall for events.” There’s also a central “promenade” planned for the North Village neighborhood, lined in 12,500 square feet worth of retail shops — plus a row of affordable housing with 53 units, and some high-end townhomes off to the side. The president of R.D. Olson Construction, the company in charge of the Appellation build, says in the latest press release: “This will truly be a destination hotel with luxury in every detail, and world-class dining experiences, resort amenities and wine country lifestyle for its guests.” (Source: HotelManagement.net & Healdsburg Tribune & City of Healdsburg & North Village)
I was present when this Boutique Hotel was approved by the planning commission. It bares no resemblance to the plans that were proposed. It’s curious how developments morph into such elaborate ventures.
