Recent Analy High School graduates Nolan Alvarez, Devon Ogston, and Carter Merlaud never skipped a beat since leading the Tigers to the Sonoma County League baseball title in May, joining forces to help lift the Santa Rosa Connie Mack Nor Cal Select U-18 squad to a Nor Cal state title.
The trio, which includes catcher Alvarez, shortstop Ogston, and outfielder Merlaud, was an all star collection of talent from Sonoma County.
The U-18 Nor Cal Select team was led by coach Mike Paul, and included four players from the North Bay League, four from the Sonoma County League and another three that attend Santa Rosa Junior College.
Santa Rosa won a series of big games in the Nor Cal SB AABC State Tournament played at Chabot College in Oakland on July 13-18, beating several top teams including Game Prep (13-0), Thundersox (3-1), Alameda Mariners (6-0) and Danville Hoots (8-5) to capture the championship.
The victory advanced Santa Rosa to the AABC West Regional tourney in Southern California on July 20-24, going 2-2, including a 5-0 loss to a perennial state powerhouse, the Southern Cal Renegades to end their tournament run.
