In a big, festive event at Costeaux Bakery in town last week, Comcast reportedly gifted $45,000 to local nonprofit Corazón Healdsburg — and handed out around 100 laptops to families who had been bussed to the catered dinner from across Sonoma County. Org leaders tell the Press Democrat that the $45,000 will likewise be used to set up a new computer lab at the Corazón offices. “We’ll have six [computer] stations… for families in northern Sonoma County to come in and do their homework, print, work on resumés,” says the org’s family resource manager, Cristal López Pardo. “We’re hoping to host some workshops for families to learn the basics of using a computer.” Here are some more details about the commotion at Costeaux last Wednesday, from the Comcast press release: “Families received the red-carpet treatment as they arrived at the bakery to enjoy a wonderful dinner in a festive space filled with over one thousand nutcrackers. Guest speakers included Healdsburg Mayor Ariel Kelley; James Gore, Sonoma County District 4 Supervisor; Marcy Flores, Executive Director of Corazón Healdsburg; and Aaron Walker, Area Vice President of Field Operations for Comcast California. At the event, Comcast surprised children with free laptops and gifts to enjoy a screening of the new Trolls Band Together movie at Airport Stadium 12.” (Comcast & Press Democrat; paywall)
