The Healdsburg Education Foundation (HEF) is teaming up with the Healdsburg Elementary/Charter PTO and the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club to fully fund field trip opportunities for all local public elementary school students from kindergarten through fifth grade.
Recent successful field trips include outings to the Bodega Bay Marine Lab, the Sonoma County Historical Museum and Pepperwood Preserve, plus live performances at the Luther Burbank Center such as “The Magic School Bus,” “Lewis & Clark” and “Mathematical Mysteries.” This year local students also explored the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, and the STEAM Showcase at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
To make these opportunities possible, the Kiwanis Club donated $2,000 and the Charter School PTO has also committed to contributing $8,000. The balance of the 2018-19 field trip funding comes through direct individual donations to HEF.
“This is a wonderful example of our community coming together on behalf of all local students,” enthused HEF Board Chairperson Dennis Agnos. “Field trips take learning beyond the walls of the classroom, inspiring teachers and students alike, and helping build important skills such critical thinking, empathy and curiosity. “
The Healdsburg Elementary/Charter School PTO funds a broad range of programs and activities for the K-5 campuses to include the Spring Fling, Book Swap and Teacher Appreciation Week. Field trips for every student in every elementary grade is also a high priority.
“We are pleased to be able to make such a significant contribution to support HEF in our mutual goal of providing field trip opportunities to the students in our district,” expressed HES/HCS/FMC PTO Co-President Erin Radelfinger. “It is gratifying to see the hard work of our parent volunteers and the generous support of the PTO from our community come together to make a difference in the lives of so many children.”
The Healdsburg Education Foundation is dedicated to bringing the public schools and the generous community of Healdsburg together to promote and invest in programs and initiatives that have the greatest impact on student learning, and help to equitably prepare all K-12 students for college, career and citizenship.
