The Eagles will play their first home football game of the season next week, Friday, Sept. 9 when they take on visiting St. Vincent.

Cloverdale visits Irvington this Saturday; home opener is Sept. 9
The varsity football Eagles took their lumps in the opening game of the 2016 season on Saturday, coming out on the short end of a 48-0 shellacking to Berean Christian.
The game, played under blue skies in Walnut Creek, was a rough start for a young, retooling Cloverdale squad, but did nothing to diminish enthusiasm in the Cloverdale locker room.
“We had mistakes on missed assignments and missed tackles that cost us, but our guys showed a lot of resiliency and didn’t quit or lay down,” CHS head coach Chad Talley said. “The result could have been much different had we just executed better.”
Despite the lopsided score, the Eagles’ brain trust cited standout efforts from several players, most notably the outstanding play in the defensive secondary from James Wirt, who knocked down key passes. Other notable performances came from defensive end Alex Segobiano and safety Tristen Nolan Rege.
Although no official stats were available, standouts on offense included running backs Rege and Mel Alonzo, who got the bulk of the carries.
Next up for the Eagles is a Saturday, Sept. 3 visit to Irvington High School in Fremont for a 7 p.m. varsity kickoff. The host Vikings also paid their dues in their season opener last week, weathering a 74-0 beat down at the hands of Encinal.
