Windsor Middle School broke ground on their new culinary room on May 1.
This new program will serve 481 students next year, including every incoming sixth grader having an opportunity to participate as part of a nine-week rotation class.
Additionally, as part of the program, Raley’s grocery store has generously approved a $15,000 “Extra Credit” grant to build an eating garden providing student-grown produce for the culinary program. Students have built garden boxes, planted seeds and will transplant their starts later this month in order to harvest the fruits of their labor when classes resume in the fall.
Windsor Middle School is also partnering with Windsor High School’s Vineyard Academy for our inaugural Dinner in the Vineyards fundraising event. The May 16 event, hosted by Christopher Creek Winery and sponsored by local businesses such as Raley’s and Sonoma County Catering, will provide the bulk of funding for next year’s food budget. Tickets for the event can be purchased at http://wms-store.myschoolcentral.com.
