Central Healdsburg Avenue Special Study Area Plan
For those of you that have been following the Central Healdsburg
Avenue Special Study Area Plan, we wrapped up our community forums
on Feb. 1. The fourth and final forum was well attended, and
provided five key opportunities that make Healdsburg, and the study
area, unique for advancing sustainable neighborhood
development.
The next big event will take place on Tuesday, March 15 at 6
p.m. in the Gymnasium at St. John’s Catholic School, which is
located at the corner of East and Tucker streets. At that time the
consultant team will share background information from their
research and then entertain community input on many critical issues
regarding the redevelopment of this area. In addition, attendees
will have an opportunity to work in groups and develop their own
vision of what could happen in the study area. For more information
on the evening’s agenda and process, please visit the project Web
site at www.myHBG.TV/CHASSA.
Healdsburg Swim Center
The pool reopened on Feb. 7. The Healdsburg and Windsor High
school swim teams use the pool in the afternoons; lap swimming and
water exercise programs are offered in the mornings on a limited
schedule through May at which time the summer schedule will go into
effect.
Tree Maintenance Project
The City will be performing maintenance pruning on 200 street
trees in the downtown area. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin
the week of March 7 and will take approximately two weeks to
complete. All work will be performed by Pacific Tree Care of
Calistoga. They will be pruning to promote plant health, provide
vehicular and building clearance and improve aesthetics. Most of
the trees will take approximately one hour each to prune, including
the clean-up, so disturbance to downtown businesses is expected to
be minimal. In addition, the crews from Pacific Tree Care will be
instructed to keep parking spaces closed for short periods of time
to minimize vehicular and pedestrian disruption. For additional
information contact Matthew Thompson at 431-3384.
Police Department Volunteer Program
The Healdsburg Police Department is rolling out a new volunteer
program. Retired St. Helena police officer Cindy Brenton has been
recruited to help build the program from ground up. Volunteers will
be trained to perform a wide variety of tasks, including parking
enforcement and traffic control, vacation house checks, community
relations and crime prevention. Ideally volunteers will have
assignments matching their areas of interest, and for which the
police department has a need. Anyone interested in becoming one of
the PD’s first volunteers can contact Cindy Brenton or Lieutenant
Kevin Young at 431-3377.
Recreation Park/Grandstands
Recreation Park has been transformed into its baseball
configuration in time for the upcoming baseball season for the high
school and Little League. Bleachers have been set in place, dugouts
cleaned, sod replaced and the infield prepared.
The Grandstands Project volunteers have also completed the major
interior renovations on the north side of the building to
accommodate games and practices at Recreation Park. Improvements on
the south side of the building that do not have any affect on
scheduled activities at the park will commence the first part of
March and are expected to last several weeks. Temporary
construction fencing is in place to separate the construction area
from portions of the parks that will be actively used in the coming
weeks.
Annual Reserve Firefighters Association Dinner
On April 2, the Reserve Association will be holding a Surf and
Turf Dinner at the Fire Station. This year the menu will include
limited quantities of the delectable abalone but it will not be the
primary entrée. Tickets are available beginning March 7 at the Fire
Department. Plan ahead and get your tickets early as they are
expected to go quickly given this is a favorite community
event.
