Recommendation to limit locations, require conditional use permits
The Healdsburg Planning Commission will review new proposed rules for firearms dealers on Wednesday, rules that could prevent a proposed gun shop on North Street, a block from the Downtown Plaza.
The proposed rules would allow firearms sales in industrial and service commercial districts. Any proposed dealer would have to obtain a conditional use permit, which requires a public hearing. Sales would also be allowed in mixed use and downtown commercial districts, but would be limited to no more than 5 percent of the floor area of a business such as a hardware store or a sporting goods store.
The rules that the commission will review Wednesday night would prohibit firearms sales in residential and office districts and in the retail zone around the Downtown Plaza.
The Planning Commission staff report also includes a map of buffer zones where firearms sales would not be allowed within 500 feet of schools, churches, day care facilities, parks and other firearms dealers.
The meeting will take place at Healdsburg City Hall, 401 Grove Street on Wednesday, March 14 at 6 p.m.
