Cloverdale catcher Pat Ojeda has been rock solid behind the plate for the first place Eagles baseball team.

Cloverdale varsity baseball and softball teams resumed their winning ways on the high school diamond last week, combining for three wins in abbreviated action due to a late spring storm.
Although scheduled games were washed out on Friday, the first place Eagles baseball squad managed a 3-1 road victory over Willits on April 19, pushing their unbeaten NCL-1 record to 6-0.
At the start of play this week, Cloverdale (9-4 overall) remained in a flat-footed tie with Kelseyville (6-0) for the top spot in league, followed by St. Helena (4-2), Fort Bragg (3-3), Middletown (3-4), Clear Lake (3-4), Willits (1-6) and Lower Lake (0-7).
At press time the Eagles were preparing to host Middletown on April 26, and will visit Fort Bragg this Friday, April 29 (4 p.m.).
The boys will return home to host Lower Lake on Tuesday, May 3 in a 4 p.m. start at City Field.
Meanwhile the Lady Eagles (11-1) stayed in close proximity to the top spot in the NCL-1 standings with a 10-1 romp at Willits on April 19, before scoring a 14-1 win over visiting Redwood Christian in a non-league meeting on Saturday.
At press time the girls were 5-1 in league, a half game back of first-place Clear Lake (5-0). Rounding out the NCL-1 standings were Lower Lake (4-1), Kelseyville (3-3), Fort Bragg (2-3), Willits (1-4), St. Helena (1 -4) and Middletown (0-5).
The Lady Eagles have games scheduled this week against Middletown (April 26), at Fort Bragg (Friday, April 29) and Saturday, April 30 at Napa (2 p.m.).
Cloverdale will be back in the friendly confines on May 3 when it entertains visiting Lower Lake (4 p.m.).
Boys turn back Willits
The Eagles sent pitcher Jared Hibbeln to the hill in their April 19 visit to Willits, and the senior veteran responded with a stellar, complete-game, two-hit, five strikeout gem.
Cloverdale tallied all three of their runs in the opening frame, getting a two-run double from Pat Ojeda, and run-scoring single from Hibbeln to plate three runs.
It was what they’d need the rest of the way en route to a 3-1 win.
Swinging hot bats for the Eagles were Ojeda (2 for 3, 2B, 2 RBIs), Hibbeln (1 for 3, run, RBI), James Wirt (1 for 3, run) and Jeff Persons (1 for 2).
Ladies score wins
The Lady Eagles opened last week’s play at Willits on April 19, riding the strong arm of ace pitcher Teanne Edens (7 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 16 Ks) in a dominant outing.
Cloverdale plated two runs in the second inning and five more in the third to bust it open, and Edens did the rest in an eventual 10-1 win.
Pacing the hitting corps were Bailey Creager (2 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 runs, 4 RBIs), Jordyn Turner (3 for 4, 2 2Bs, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Amber Adams (2 for 3, 2B, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Xochilth Saldana (1 for 4, 2B, RBI) and Hailey Donahoo (1 for 3, 2B, 2 runs).
The Eagles made short work of visiting Redwood Christian in an April 22 non-league clash, exploding for a combined 14 runs in the first four innings on their way to a 14-0 win in five.
Edens (5 IP) tossed a perfect game, striking out 12 of the 15 batters she faced.
Leading the offensive barrage were Turner (2 for 2, 2B, 3 runs), Edens (2 for 2, 2B, 1 run, 5 RBIs), Donahoo (2 for 2, 4 runs, RBI), Heather Sterling (2 for 3, 1 run, RBI), Adams (1 for 3, 2B, 1 run, 2 RBIs) and Bailey Stewart (1 for 2, 3 runs).
