Christine H. Duncan, 82, of Forestville, died on July 27 at the
Alameda Care Center. Born in Oakland, she grew up in Berkeley,
attended UC Berkeley, majoring in design, and married her late
husband, George B. Duncan III. The couple lived in Visalia during
World War II, where she assisted in the war effort working in an
Air Force traffic control tower while George taught high school and
served in the Air Force reserve. The couple and baby daughter
Muriel returned to Berkeley where son Bruce was born. The family
then moved to Marin County, where George taught at College of Marin
and son Craig was added to the family. In 1973 George and Christine
retired to Forestville. Christine was instrumental in creating the
water district that now serves her neighborhood. She drove elderly
and disabled clients for the Sonoma Council on Aging for many
years. She counseled other breast cancer survivors in the Reach to
Recovery program. Christine is survived by her children, Muriel J.
Dawkins, Bruce M. Duncan and Craig S. Duncan, her grandchildren,
Rogelio S. Dawkins, Alexandra C. Dawkins-Dye, Rose A. Duncan, Bryce
Duncan and Iris Duncan, and her great grandchild, Zachary A. Dye.
There will be a memorial gathering for family and friends at 1 p.m.
on Aug. 10 in Armstrong Woods.
