Teams advance to regional title games
A pair of Windsor Cal Ripken League all star baseball teams ended magical runs last weekend in their respective Pacific Southwest Regional tournaments, each advancing to the championship game to earn a second place trophy.
Part of a group of six all star teams representing Windsor in Cal Ripken tourney play this summer, the 11-under and 12-under teams made local history by reaching the elite Regional tourney for the first time ever.
Below is a recap and highlights for each team.
11-U All Stars
The Windsor 11-U all-stars, led by manager Scott DeMars and coaches Robert Johnson and Jason Wright, posted an overall record of 16-3 in Cal Ripken tournament play this summer. In 19 games the local squad outscored its opponents by a whopping 143-41.
The boys allowed just eight runs in the regional tournament held in Long Beach, posting shutout wins over Northern Utah, Arizona and Long Beach, while beating Hawaii (8-3) and Simi Valley (7-1). The victories advanced Windsor to the Regional title game, where they fell to Bakersfield 4-1.
Pitchers Carson Dillon, Diego Boardman, Elijah Hackathorn, Gio Lucchesi and ace Landen Rota all won big games for Windsor. Rota led the team with a 7-1 record and a 1.03 ERA, followed by Dillon (5-2, 1.03 ERA). Hackathorn saved several games and notched a complete game shut-out of Rohnert Park Blue in the pre-state championship game to bring home the first ever all star tournament banner for Windsor.

Rota, Scott, De Mars and Johnson were each named to the all-tournament team, an honor given to just 12 of 120 participating players.
Patrolling the open spaces were outfielders Joseph Campbell, Clayton De Mars, Gio Lucchesi, Sam Wright and Jacob Spessard.  Lucchesi and De Mars led the defense with a series of outstanding plays, throwing out a combined nine base-runners.
The infield was manned by Rota, Hackathorn, Boardman, Dillon and first basemen Jake Scott and Brayden Colletto and catcher RJ Johnson.
Top hitters included Clayton De Mars (.530 batting average) and Rota (.479, 20 RBIs). In addition, Rota, Scott, and Johnson had multiple home runs, including a grand slam by each player. Also hitting round trippers were Dillon, De Mars, Lucchesi and Hackathorn.
