William “Bill” Starkey, 83, a lifetime Sebastopol resident, died
on July 20. A second-generation apple rancher, he graduated from
Pleasant Hill School and Analy High where he was in FFA. He worked
at Mare Island and joined the Army Air Force during World War II.
He returned from the war to ranch and farm apples. He was on the
Twin Hills school board and the Sebastopol Co-op Cannery Board for
many years. Bill was a founding member of the Twin Hills Volunteer
Fire Department and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 3919 of Sebastopol and the Farm Bureau. He was preceded in
death by his son Richard Starkey and his brother-in-law, Art
Brodie. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Blanche Starkey,
daughters Donna (John) Fore and Jane (Bruce) Reinecke,
daughter-in-law Diane Starkey, his grandchildren Matt (Diana) and
Mitch, Jeannie Starkey, Michael Fore, Catherine (Philip)
Fore-Seavey, Christopher and Katie Reinecke, six
great-grandchildren, sisters Frances (Walt) Schumann and Barbara
Brodie and numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 2
p.m. on July 25 at the Sebastopol Christian Church. Donations in
his memory can be made to the American Heart Association.
