A $20 million freeway paving project is making good progress, even as crews start planning for winter rain interruptions.
Dubbed “The Big Pave” by State Senator Mike McGuire, who helped procure funding for the project, DeSilva Gates Construction Limited is engaged in nighttime work on a stretch of Highway 101 from downtown Windsor to the Canyon Road exchange at the north end of Geyserville.
The project was divided into four sections of paving and three sections are already smoother and quieter. The entire northbound stretch has been paved and half the southbound stretch, from Dry Creek Road to Windsor, has been paved as well.
Much more detail work is to be done, including drainage improvements, guard rails, concrete median barriers and concrete creek and bridge crossings.
Alejandro Lopez, Public Information Officer for Caltrans, said the project could take another year before the southbound section from Geyserville to Healdsburg is paved and the aforementioned details work is complete.
Lopez said that, once all details are in place, a final additional layer of asphalt will be added.
Paving of the freeway from Geyserville to Cloverdale has also been funded, but no start date for the project has been announced.
