Talk about job security … in being named one of the 100 best
companies to work for the sixth year in a row, the folks at the
Edward Jones financial services firm point out that the company has
not had a layoff in 34 years. This year, the company was named No.
4 on the annual list of the 100 best places to work by Fortune
Magazine. The company has had top 10 finishes in each of the last
five years and finished No. 1 in 2002 and 2003.
Tim R. Moore, who heads the Sebastopol office of Edward Jones,
noted that “We are especially proud of this achievement because it
is, in large part, the result of how associates view Edward Jones.
Except for our clients, there is no group whose approval matters
more.”

Volunteers needed to teach
English

The Adult Literacy League of Sonoma County has a long list of
people waiting for tutors to help them learn English. The
organization is the oldest and largest volunteer group in Sonoma
County teaching English as a second language to adults. The next
tutoring workshop is scheduled for Jan. 24 & 31 at the league’s
Santa Rosa office, 4525 Montgomery Dr., Ste. 2A. Two six-hour
classes cost $20 (tax deductible) to cover materials. For more
information or to register for the workshop, call the league office
at 539-3848.

Word Box
“The world is a hellish place, and bad writing is destroying the
quality of our suffering. It cheapens and degrades the human
experience, when it should inspire and elevate.” – Tom Waits
