Former Sebastopol resident Benjamin Frederick Leavy, 12, of
Yountville, died on June 26 in an accident in Nashville, TN. His
organs were donated to children in need. Ben was born September 26,
1991 in Santa Rosa and was raised in Sebastopol until 1998 when he
moved to Yountville with his mother and brother. Ben attended
Yountville Elementary School from second to sixth grade. He was
president of Toastmasters while there. He recently graduated from
Redwood Middle School as a Lion with a 4.0 GPA and was awarded
student of the month and excellence in science. Ben enjoyed many
sports and skateboarding, even after breaking his elbow. Ben’s
special interests in fishing were evidenced often in trips to Cow
Pie Pond and other local fishing holes with his friends and
brother. Ben is survived by his older brother, Shaun, and his mom,
Lori Cagwin-Leavy, of Yountville, his father, Rick Leavy of
Alameda, his half sister Gabrielle Leavy of Chico, his maternal
grandparents Nancie Straub of Danville and Thomas Cagwin of Friday
Harbor, Washington, his uncles Jon Cagwin of St. Helena and Ron
Leavy of San Mateo and aunts Sue Gray and Rhonda Reid of San Mateo,
in addition many cousins in the Bay Area. A service is planned at
St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 6404 Washington Street, Yountville
on Friday July 23 at 11:30 a.m. with a lunch gathering at Veterans
Memorial Park. Bring words, photos and love to share for Ben.
Donations will be accepted at Yountville Focus, towards a yearly
scholarship fund in Ben Leavy’s name or Hospice of Napa Valley.
