Cloverdale ready for sunshine this week in three-game stretch
The varsity baseball Eagles will take advantage of clear skies this week as they begin a busy stretch on the high school diamond.
The Eagles were victimized by stormy weather again on Friday with yet another rainout, setting up a busy schedule for the rest of the month.
The Eagles did manage one recent road trip to Fort Bragg on April 2, coming out on the short end of a one-hit pitching performance by the Timberwolves in a 3-0 loss.
At press time Cloverdale (3-1, 6-5) was preparing for a busy stretch, beginning on April 9 versus St. Helena, followed by road trips to Middletown (April 10) and Lower Lake (April 12). The Eagles will host Marin Academy in a non-league contest on Monday, April 15 and visit Clear Lake on Tuesday, April 16. All games start at 4 p.m.
Eagles fall to Fort Bragg
The bats went silent in the April 2 visit to Fort Bragg managing just a single off the bat of freshman David Alvarez as the T-Wolves cruised to a 3-0 victory. Alvarez (4 IP, 6 hits, 1 ER, 2 Ks) also got the start on the mound for the Eagles, combining forces with reliever Collin Patterson (2 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, K) in a couple of strong performances.
“We faced a very strong pitcher and he was able to get a lot of ground outs on us,” CHS coach Ben West reported. “On the other side of it we got a strong start out of Alvarez — he made strong pitches and only gave up one earned against a good hitting baseball team. “Patterson also had a strong outing out of the pen as well.”
