Bright Futures (and D&D)
For the second year I went and participated at the Nueva School for the Performing Arts Senior Jury Assessments and Interview at Windsor High School. Nueva is the CTE Arts Core at WHS, and these assessments and interviews are the final piece of graduating senior’s journeys.
The students must create websites, business cards, introduce themselves, speak extemporaneously and keep eye contact, all while describing internships and senior projects they have participated in. This year I had the pleasure of meeting aspiring dancers, fashion designers, musicians, artists and costumers, and heard about passion projects and educational endeavors.
They’re still high school kids, so of course there is nervousness and uncertainty, and a whole lot of dreams. As a cynical old person, it’s easy to forget what its like to be so sure of the path in front of you and to believe that anything is possible. This is a good way to remember that feeling.
They are always looking for community members to be panelists, so next year, check it out and see if there’s a slot you can be available for. It’s definitely worth the time.
Also, it was weirdly comforting to learn that 30-odd years later kids are still playing Dungeons & Dragons. Take that, Minecraft.
Choir Festival
Windsor High School is hosting a Choir Festival on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Windsor High School theater. Admission is free. Local choirs will come and perform for the community to showcase vocal groups in Windsor. Some of the choirs attending include Windsor High School choir, Windsor Middle School choir, Brooks Elementary Musical Theater choir, Windsor Children’s Community choir and Vinyl Revival, an adult jazz ensemble.Â
Rotary Lobster Feed
The fifth annual Lobster Feed Celebration put on by the Windsor Rotary takes place Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. There will be live music, local beer and wine tastings, live and silent auctions and lobster galore. It takes place at the Mary Agatha Furth Center, and benefits local Windsor Youth. Tickets are $125, and must be purchased in advance. Check out http://www.windsorlobster.com.
