Completed applications for this vacancy must be returned to the town clerk’s office no later than 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Town Hall, 9291 Old Redwood Highway, Building 400.
School concert
Windsor High School and Windsor Middle School strings players will come together to perform an “All Play” on Friday, Jan. 18 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Windsor High School Theater.
St. Baldrick’s returns
Delay that trip to the barber this month, and next and participate in the annual St. Baldrick’s festival to raise money for children’s cancer research. The event runs much like a walkathon. Volunteers register to have their heads shaved and they ask friends and family for donations in return.
The event will be Saturday, March 23 at the Publican in Windsor. Head shaving will run from 1 to 6 p.m., there will be live music with an extended beer garden. If all goes well in this eighth year, they will have raised over $100,000 and shaved over 100 heads.
According to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, in the U.S. more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Treating cancer in children requires different techniques and drugs but less than 4 percent of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s helps fill this gap. Cancer strikes children without discrimination. Money raised through these events has helped fund new clinical trials at Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland and given research grants to UC Berkley and Stanford.
