Ann Hall, 67, passed away peacefully at her home in San
Francisco on January 8, 2005. Ann was born June 4, 1937 in Fort
Wayne, Indiana. She attended Trinity College in Washington, D.C.
and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She was a member of
the Francisca Club. Ann, a former resident of Healdsburg, is
remembered as a dear friend with an impish grin, a robust laugh,
and an infectious enthusiasm for life. She was a talented artist,
and was committed to the arts. Ann had a profound love for the
opera, which she enjoyed sharing with others. Ann owned and
operated Ann Hall Color Design. She had a sublime understanding of
color and developed her own line of paint colors that are available
through G & R Paint Company in San Francisco. She was on the
board of the Healdsburg Arts Council and contributed to Art on the
Move, both as an artist and a volunteer. Ann was one of a small
number of individuals whose support made it possible for the Arts
Council to finance renovations to the Healdsburg Train Depot and
thereby sponsor a week long series of art events highlighted by the
arrival of the Art Train. She was a superb seamstress and designed
her own costumes for various masquerade events. She is perhaps best
known for her colorful performance as Queen Ann at the Arts
Council’s Millennium New Year’s Eve Renaissance Ball at the Villa
Chanticleer. Another of Ann’s memorable roles was as Glenda the
Good Witch at a Halloween fundraiser for the Healdsburg Shared
Ministries Food Pantry. Ann’s beautifully remodeled home on Johnson
Street was included on the Healdsburg Historic Homes Tour and
featured a decor that exhibited Ann’s passion for color. She was an
avid gardener and enjoyed spending time among her roses and
peonies. Ann is survived by Michael and Bo Hall of Norwich,
Vermont, Charles Hall and Kit Mayberry of Rochester, New York,
Peter Hall and Alice Wiley Hall of San Francisco, six nephews and
nieces, and numerous friends. A colorful celebration of Ann’s life
was held on Friday, January 14 at St. Mary of the Virgin Church in
San Francisco. Donations may be made in Ann’s name to the San
Francisco Opera or the Leland Conservancy in Leland, Michigan.
