Teams qualify eight to NCS meet  Feb. 23-24
The Lions and Tigers logged a memorable day of competition at the Sonoma County League Wrestling Championships in Healdsburg on Saturday, making the most of what is the last season before league realignment.
Each team sent a small contingent to the meet due to illness or injury, with several coming away with top-three medals.
The goal for most athletes was a top-three finish in their respective weight class, good for advancement to the North Coast Section Championships on Feb. 23-24 at James Logan High School in Union City. A top-three finish at NCS will earn wrestlers a spot at the prestigious California Interscholastic Federation championships in Bakersfield on Mar. 2-3.
Leading the charge for the Tigers were NCS qualifiers; 122-pound senior Trevor Bagan and 115-pounder sophomore Preston Bagan, who each captured individual league titles. It was the third straight for Trevor, while Preston won his first.  Also moving on to NCS are 122-pound Zach Fogg (3rd place) and 187-pound Alex Perreira (3rd).
Competing in the JV competition were 115-pound Logan Bailey (1st place), Melita Millward (did not place) and Carlos Mendoza (did not place).
The Lions qualified three wrestlers to the NCS meet, including 108-pound freshman Erik Dimond (3rd place), 126-pound freshman Asher Weathersbee (3rd place) and 140-pound sophomore Nate Wheeler (2nd place).
In addition, 134-pound senior Angel Aguilar took fourth place and is a NCS alternate. Other Analy varsity wrestlers at the meet included 134-pound Jimmy Carreras (did not place) and 162-pound Lorenzo Robles (did not place).
El Mo’s 140-pound freshman Hannah Ricioli wrestled well in the all-boy’s JV bracket, coming home with a third-place medal.
