Teams have good showing at Tim Brown Memorial

The Lions and Tigers were well represented at the prestigious Tim Brown Memorial Tournament in Sacramento on Jan. 12-13, an annual litmus test that included many of the top high school athletes in the state.
Representing Analy were veterans Trevor Bagan, Preston Bagan and Jimmy Carreras.  Senior Trevor Bagan, the Tigers’ returning state qualifier, led the way with a 4-1 record, good for second place overall.  Preston Bagan went 2-2 for the tournament, while Carreras was 0-2.
The Lions sent a three-man contingent to the Tim Brown tourney, as Wheeler went 2-2 in the 147-pound weight class, while senior veteran Sire Clark returned from injury to post a 1-2 record. Wyatt Ayers was 0-2 for the Lions.
“We were able to get Sire back on the mat and shake the dust off,” El Mo coach Ron Wright reported. “He had a win and we learned what he needs to work on as we progress through the remainder of his senior season.  Nate Wheeler showed continued improvement in his second year wrestling.  Wyatt had a tough tournament, but we figured a few things out and will work hard to get ready for this week,” he added.
The Lions also sent a small group to the Albany frosh/soph JV and varsity girls tournament last weekend, with senior Angelica Schmeichel and freshman Hannah Ricioli each going 1-2 in their respective weight classes.
“Hannah continues to improve in her first season and Angelica made some big improvements throughout the tournament,” Wright noted. “Both girls wrestled some very tough competition and showed the resolve to keep battling it out.”
Also representing the Lions were Erik Dimond (4th place), Zavier Grech (injury default), Asher Weathersbee (3-1, 3rd place).
Tigers take down Prospectors
The Tigers also took the mat in a Jan. 10 dual meet at Piner, turning back the Prospectors on points. The meet featured numerous forfeits. Scoring mat wins for Analy were heavyweight Alex Perreira (by pin) and 120-pound Logan Bailey (by pin).
Scheduling notes
The Lions will resume Sonoma County League dual meet action against visiting Healdsburg Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.  Both Analy and El Mo will compete in the annual Windsor King of the Mat Tournament Jan. 20 (9 a.m.).  JV wrestlers will also participate in the Prince of the Mat tourney at Windsor on Jan. 19.
