West county high school softball teams took a brief hiatus from the diamond during spring break, but weather permitting, will resume a full slate of action this week.
At the time of this writing, El Molino (4-4) had managed just one preseason outing in a 10-day stretch, dropping a 6-5 barnburner in a March 19 visit to Fort Bragg.
“It was a very good game but a heartbreaker at the same time,” El Mo coach Steve Newcomb reported. “We gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh.”
The Lions sent freshman pitcher Katelyn Tourady to the hill against the Timberwolves, settling into a nice groove after allowing two runs in the opening frame. The Lions clawed back with two runs in the fifth to tie it up and surged ahead with one in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 5-2 cushion into the final inning. But Fort Bragg refused to go quietly in a four-run seventh to pull out a 6-5 victory.
Tourady (6.2 IP, 5 hits, 3 ERs, 7 Ks) took a tough loss, while top El Mo hitters were Tourady (2 for 4, run, RBI), Ahnicka Kjaer (1 for 3, run), Erika Olson (1 for 2), Bridget Niclaes (1 for 4, run), Bella Gaab (1 for 3, run, RBI) and Peyton Hamner (1 for 2, run).
At press time the Lions were preparing to host Justin Siena on March 26 and will visit Clear Lake on Saturday, March 30 (time TBA). El Mo will open the North Bay League Redwood Division schedule next Tuesday, April 2 in a 4 p.m. contest.
Tigers ready for league
The Analy Tigers (1-3) have been mostly idle during a stormy month of March, but will soon ramp up preparation for the upcoming North Bay League Oak Division.
Weather permitting, the Tigers will resume preseason action on March 26 at Tamalpais, followed by a Wednesday, March 27, home tilt with Marin Catholic at 4 p.m. Analy will compete in the Napa Invitational Tournament on March 29 and 30 and open the NBL campaign on Tuesday, April 2, at Montgomery at 4 p.m.
