Memorial service set for Adam “Ace” Corriera Ramos
‘He was loved by everybody’
Adam “Ace” Corriera Ramos, a beloved member of the Cloverdale community, passed away peacefully on Jan. 6, 2018 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He was born April 26, 1933 in Eureka, California.
Adam had the pleasure of going to Madeira Island, Portugal with his grandpa when he was 14 years old. It was one of the highlights of his life. He moved to Cloverdale from Eureka in 1950 and graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1951.
He was drafted in the US Army in 1953 and spent two years in Korea. Upon being discharged, he went to work as a lumber grader. In 1958, he went to work at Italian Swiss Colony Winery where he met his wife Carolyn. After he was laid off, he bought the Mobil Service Station in Cloverdale and was owner/operator for three years. He then briefly worked for MGM Brakes until the EPA closed down the plant. Adam then worked at ACE Hardware in Cloverdale until his final retirement.
Adam was a life member of the VFW Post 9268 in Cloverdale and a member of the Druids. He loved to travel, especially in the motor home, going crabbing at Bodega Bay and taking care of his fish ponds. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He enjoyed being a member of the Smokey Bear Collectors Club.
“Adam was loved by everybody. He was one in a million,” said Sam Beeson, ACE Hardware store manager. “I’ve known him forever, since I was a little kid coming into the hardware store. Everyone in town knew Ace. We’d see him at church barbecues, Druid barbecues. He was always around, telling a joke or something. He was an upbeat individual. He loved telling stories and he had a million stories.
“Ace worked our plumbing department, but he was more of a greeter. He would say hello to everybody and strike up a conversation. He definitely brought life to the store in that respect. He was here for a long time.”
“Ace always had a historical story to tell me,” added Cherie Kelsay, who works at the Cloverdale Reveille. “His jokes were super funny. I’ll miss seeing him.”
Adam was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Ramos, his son Brian and a brother Dave. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of 58 years, his daughter Diane and her husband Robert Miller of Cloverdale, sister-in-law Susie Ramos of Eureka, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Adam was a very loving husband and father and loved to spend time with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13 at the Cloverdale Veterans Memorial Building at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cloverdale Fire Department in Adam’s name.
