North county chapter meets Jan. 24
“Recommendations for Improving the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office” will be the highlight presentation of the ACLU’s Northern Sonoma County Chapter meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 6 p.m. at Foss Creek Community Center Library in Healdsburg, at 1557 Healdsburg Avenue.
Speaking will be Jerry Threet, Director of the Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach (IOLERO) of Sonoma County, established by the Board of Supervisors.
Threet will describe how IOLERO works with the public to effectively and independently review issues/complaints with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, with the goal of improving law enforcement performance and responsiveness.
In the same context, he will also address implementation of SB 54, the California Values Act, which limits cooperation between local law enforcement and the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as the upcoming June 2018 county sheriff election.
ACLU board members will give a brief overview of the local chapter’s current and future activities, and meeting attendees will have a chance to voice any concerns about civil liberties-related issues. ACLU board members will be elected at the end of the meeting.
The public is encouraged to attend.
The Northern Sonoma County chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), affiliated with the ACLU of Northern California, was established in mid-2017. Its current board members are Dave Henderson, Patty Morandi, Michèle St. Clair, and Mona Ashbaugh.
Future initiatives of the local chapter include a forum for candidates for Sonoma County Sheriff on April 24, 2018.
