Get inspired at the Healdsburg Homes Tour

The AAUW Healdsburg Homes Tour is the major fundraiser for the Healdsburg branch of the American Association of University Women. The homes on this tour, on Sunday, May 5, are not on the market for sale, but they are an inspiration for those remodeling, renovating, buying and selling homes.

The American Association of University Women is a national organization of women that advances gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy. The Healdsburg Branch of AAUW, founded in 1975 and serving Cloverdale, Geyserville, Healdsburg and Windsor, furthers its mission by providing scholarships for women and girls, and supporting local education.

Innovation abounds in the six homes of this 29th annual Healdsburg Homes Tour. Four of the homes were purchased in the last three years. The newest home completed in 2018 is a modern “farmhouse” constructed on a large lot just a few blocks from the Healdsburg Plaza.

A home, originally built in 1901, was down to the studs when purchased by new owners and rebuilt in 2018. Today it is an elegant 21st century family home with a beautiful blend of historic detail. What had been a non-descript ranch style house built in the 1980s is now transformed as a mecca for indoor/outdoor living and entertaining.

Historic preservation is embodied in some of the oldest homes in Healdsburg. The second oldest standing home in the city, built in 1856, won the Healdsburg Museum’s Historic Preservation award in 2015. Its new owners delight in its rich history and modern conveniences. A neoclassic bungalow built in 1896 has preserved its charm amid a lovely garden with a pool blending into the landscape. An 1888 Italianate cottage retains many of its historic architectural and period details, while the interior reflects its owners’ love of the San Francisco Giants and the exterior reflects their love of entertaining. All homes are within a few blocks of the Healdsburg Museum starting point of the tour.

Tickets are $45 in advance, $50 at the event. Tour check-in is from 9: a.m. to 3 p.m. and tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting at the Healdsburg Museum on 221 Matheson St. Visit https://healdsburg-ca.aauw.net/home-tour-info for more information. Cash sales only are at Copperfield’s and Levin & Co. booksellers. Proceeds benefit local education and scholarships for women and girls.
