Down at the south end of town, Healdsburg Lumber Company wants permission to use their lot next to the freeway as a lumber yard for at least the next three years, according to the City of Healdsburg. They’re already using it to store overflow “materials and vehicles,” the city says — but they need an official permit “to bring the site into compliance with the Land Use Code.” So the city’s planning commission will hold a public hearing on the topic tomorrow night. Last year, Healdsburg’s homegrown lumber company moved from their historic Hudson Street location, next to the old train station, to a much larger and spiffier location across the river. This lumber yard at 13255 Healdsburg Ave. is situated a few hundred yards south of their new location, on the other side of the street — right across from Giorgio’s. Here are some more details from the agenda for the city hearing tomorrow: “The project site is currently a vacant, undeveloped, triangular shaped parcel located at the southernmost end of Healdsburg Avenue. The site is abutted by Highway 101 to the west, Healdsburg Avenue to the east and a Mixed Use (MU) parcel to the north. The site has been improved with fencing, and a 9,000 square foot permeable base rock pad, and is currently storing materials and vehicles for Healdsburg Lumber Company. … The project proposes to store materials year-round and proposes vehicle and material movement Monday – Saturday from 6am to 5pm. At the time the temporary use permit expires, the applicant will relocate the materials, or work with the City to establish a permanent use on the site.” (Source: City of Healdsburg & City of Healdsburg via Facebook & Healdsburg Tribune)
