Big PSA tonight! The third annual Lunar New Year festival planned for the Healdsburg plaza tomorrow has been canceled because of this storm headed our way. Even though organizers had planned to hold the event “rain or shine,” due to the predicted intensity of the rains ahead (more on that below), “the decision was made to cancel the event to ensure everyone’s safety,” city officials said in a public statement. They added: “We are extending a heartfelt shoutout to our phenomenal Lunar New Year event organizers. Their dedication, creativity, and passion have been the driving force behind what promised to be an unforgettable celebration.” One of said organizers — Caroline Bontia, also the driving force behind the popular “Shop Local Healdsburg” blog and Instagram account — says that she and her Lunar New Year event crew “hope to reschedule and find another date.” And the city adds: “Although we may not be able to gather in person this weekend, let’s carry the spirit of Lunar New Year with us wherever we go. May this year bring us all abundant blessings, joy, and prosperity.” (Source: Healdsburg Community Services via Facebook & Shop Local Healdsburg)
