Everyone was pretty sure this would happen, but now it’s a done deal: Healdsburg High School’s consistently excellent girls basketball team won the league championship game against Rancho Cotate on Saturday night. This means they took the No. 1 spot out of seven teams from nearby high schools in the North Bay Redwood League, for the second year in a row. Our girls team was undefeated this season — “their best year in years, and they’ve had some good ones,” writes the Healdsburg Tribune’s news editor, Christian Kallen. And at their final game on Saturday night, just like Stephen Curry in the Golden State Warriors game that same night, Healdsburg High star Hailey Webb was a total three-pointer machine. “Hailey Webb hit six three-pointers and was the only player in double figures as she scored 22 points to lead the Greyhounds to a win over the Cougars,” the Press Democrat reports. “Healdsburg (25-2), which has won 15 in a row and was also the regular-season champion, started pulling away from Rancho Cotate (15-13) in the third quarter. The Greyhounds had led 19-18 at halftime but outscored the Cougars 12-9 in the frame before winning the fourth quarter 15-7. Hannah Sellards and Claire Berry each added six points for the Greyhounds.” Our boys team unfortunately had the opposite sort of season, coming in last place out of five teams in their league.
